There has been widespread press coverage for our recent work published in Catalysis Science and Technology on the conversion of real fermentation broths (i.e. beer!) into advanced biofuels. Although the alliteration of beer, butanol, Bristol (and boffins) is a headline-writer’s dream, there is a serious point to this study in that it shows our catalysts for bioethanol to butanol upgrading have good tolerance to the impurities in a real fermentation broth compared to laboratory-grade reagents. Bristol’s press release is here, with some example articles from The Sun, The Mirror, The Mail, The Independent and (ahem) Playboy!
